Carved by Light is a series of experimental relief photographs of major Alpine peaks 150 years from their first ascents.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the golden age of alpinism, Agnieszka Kozłowska traversed the Alps and climbed to locations overlooking a selection of peaks ascended for the first time by mountaineers in the period 1854-1865. Using an unexplored photographic technique, Kozłowska recorded each summit producing a relief in a light-sensitive polymer plate exposed directly in a camera for a period ranging from several hours to several days.

The works were installed at Nairs Centre for Contemporary Art. The gallery is housed within a historical bath house in Scuol, Switzerland, where XIXth c. tourists came to "take the waters" of the Lower Engadin.
